Garbage collection is one   of the most important aspects of waste management.   After all, if we have missed their collection, there is no way to proceed to any of the   next stages of the process   for their efficient transportation, storage (disposal), destruction, disposal, recycling, right?

Waste collection – why and how?

Everyone who produces waste resources – households, businesses, industry and the public sector, is   responsible to ensure their proper collection   in appropriate points that allow further treatment with them such as transportation, disposal, etc. That is why even as children one of the first household tasks that we are taught to perform is   the disposal of garbage.

The local authorities   are responsible for organizing these next steps  , through public procurement awarded to competent service providers.

To fulfill this role, they   set and collect taxes from citizens and businesses each year   in order to finance their activities. They are also responsible for monitoring the fulfillment of the obligations of all   responsible persons in the chain.

As part of their regulatory role, the authorities issue prescriptions, orders and impose fines   on the relevant legislation, if necessary.

The authorities shall provide on site the appropriate   containers for the collection of mixed household waste,   as well as special for special categories of recyclable waste. In addition,   points are organized for different types of garbage,   categorized as dangerous. This usually happens periodically for households.

Whether we are talking about the home, office, business or even an entire settlement,   there are some eternal challenges in garbage collection,   but there are also some useful tricks that can help us deal with garbage more efficiently and at a much higher cost. -little time. Let’s take a look at some of them!

One of the important aspects of waste collection is   sorting.   We know we need to divide waste into categories. For this purpose you can set aside   a special bin for each type   – plastic and metal, paper, glass, household, electronics and batteries.

But do you know which glass can be recycled and which can’t? This is sometimes too much information for one person.

You can try to   distribute the responsibilities,   by “appointing” one member of the family or the team of the company to be responsible for   a specific category of garbage.   This way the responsibilities will be clearly distributed and everyone will be able to be competent for their some of them.

Make a program   Dispose of each category of garbage on a given day of the week. This will save you the hassle of having too much   waste to throw away   at the same time.

Try to recycle yourself   At home, you can make recycled paper, for example, to use to make spectacular cards or other decorations.

This sounds quite difficult, but in fact all you have to do is   pass a small amount of old paper through a blender with a little warm water,   as you have previously torn it into smaller pieces. The resulting slurry is cellulose, whose molecules are ready to be immediately re-glued to each other.

Now it remains to pour the mixture into a flat sieve and   drain the water from it with a light pressure  . When done, iron with a rice sheet and our own recycled paper will be ready.

There are many videos online where you can see the process step by step. This is the ideal activity both for home and for team building with colleagues.

As long as you have a terrace, basement or other convenient place, it is possible to make   compost for organic waste at home.   This way you will be able to produce fertilizer for your garden and seriously   reduce the carbon footprint of your home.

Remember to consider whether it is not possible to   reuse some of the waste   before giving it away for disposal or recycling. Many of your old clothes, for example, you can   donate to needy or charities.

The same applies to electrical equipment, electronics and furniture that could still perform their useful functions, etc.

Limit waste production   from your household or office as much as possible. As we know, the environmental damage caused by non-degradable materials is one of the   most serious challenges facing humanity.   Replace disposable plastic as much as possible with containers that can be used more than once.

If you own a small or medium-sized business, for example, you can encourage your employees to bring food from home, thus   you will generate fewer boxes of purchased food.

You can   enter a small token bonus,   or a reward for someone who manages to bring home-cooked food every day for a set amount of time.

At home, you can explain to the children that   it will be much better for nature   if they bring home-cooked food to school or the classroom. Encourage them by buying them   eco-friendly toys   as a reward for good achievement.

If you do not intend to invest in the composting of biowaste, you can buy a   kitchen waste grinder   to grind it and take it directly to the sewer.

This is a method that allows treatment plants to more easily sort these biomass residues and direct them to the appropriate facilities for   renewable energy production.

Hazardous waste can cause headaches,   as it is collected periodically, often twice or even only once a year. If you break a mercury thermometer during this time, for example, you are not allowed to   dispose of it with household waste  , as mercury is an extremely toxic substance.

In that case, just go to the pharmacy and   buy a packet of sulfur powder.   It will react with the mercury molecules and turn it into a completely harmless sulfide, which you can then   put in the bin along with the rest of the waste.

Expired medicines are also hazardous waste and should not be disposed of indiscriminately. To save your worries, do a   regular audit of the stocks in your home medicine cabinet   and as soon as the time for a medicine expires, you can donate it to those in need, as long as, of course, the packaging is intact.

These are just some of the tricks we can use to make it easier to deal with our   civil responsibilities related to garbage collection.   If you need more advice or help regarding waste management, Ecoabonament.bg is always opposite.
