Transport of Dangerous Goods by Road

Under the European Agreement on the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road (ADR), all undertakings which involve the transport of dangerous goods by road or related packaging and loading and unloading activities must have a Safety Consultant to assist them in the activities related to the transport of dangerous ADR goods.

The responsible task of the consultant includes numerous activities to mitigate the risks associated with the population, the environment and the different types of property.

The European Agreement on the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road (ADR) was drafted in Geneva in 1957 under the auspices of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe and entered into force in 1968. Subsequently, the international transport of dangerous goods is regulated by amendments to Annexes A and B of the ADR.

According to the agreement, there are different types of dangerous goods.

There are dangerous goods that are prohibited for transport and are not accepted for international transport.

 Dangerous goods shall be accepted for international transport only subject to:

  1. The conditions laid down in Annex A for the goods concerned as regards their packaging and labelling
  1. The conditions laid down in Annex B as regards the equipment and operation of the vehicle carrying out the carriage of the goods concerned.

The safety consultant must perform a number of functions, such as advising and prescribing of a number of security, health and environmental measures in relation to the transport of dangerous goods, as well as the preparation of a number of reports and statements.

  1. We give instructions for proper packaging, labelling and marking of packaging
  1. We check or prepare documents for the transport of dangerous goods by road, air, sea or multimodal transport
  1. We prepare appropriate measures, advice and guidelines for the prevention of incidents and violations of regulations
  1. We closely monitor and perform all other duties described for ADR Consultant in Chapter 1.8.3.3 of the ADR.
